DRUMS ABOVE THE MOHAWK IS A FREE PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENT PRESENTED BY THE GREEN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE.
"More than one thousand re-enactors portraying American rebels, redcoat regulars, loyalists, militia and camp followers are expected to participate in the weekend activities." said Jeffery Tew, event organizer. "This will be an ideal experience to learn about life in the Mohawk Valley during a time when everyone lived 'carbon-neutral'. By visiting the re-enactors and their camps, the public will enjoy a good exhibition of ‘green living’ to start thinking about the steps we can take to reduce our carbon footprint and protect the environment.”
Drums Above the Mohawk is a carbon neutral living exhibition of the Green Leadership Institute, sponsored by Saranac Beer, Safflyn Corporation, BVMA, and the British Brigade 24th Regiment. During the American revolutionary war, Andrustown was a settlement of German families near what is now known as the historic Gelston Castle Estate.
Admission is free to the public. The public are encouraged to visit the 18th century style camps and talk to the re-enactors. Other activities include historical presentations, family and children's games, raffles, prizes and a variety of other recreational actives. Vendors will be onsite for collectibles and items to purchase. Saturday and Sunday hours are from 10am to 4pm. The full scale battle will start on Saturday at 2pm and on Sunday at 1pm. Parking will require a $5 carbon offset per vehicle for non-members of the Green Leadership Institute.
The Green Leadership Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming how society interacts with our environment. Founded in 2008 by Safflyn Corporation, it provides educational programs, leadership training, business incubation and technology research on the grounds of Gelston Castle Estate, a carbon-neutral development owned by the Corporation. “This will be an exciting piece of history at a time when people need to see what this country once was.” said Jason Safford, Co-Founder of the Institute and CEO of Safflyn. “Drums Above the Mohawk returns us to an American era, which pursued happiness in a manner and style that considered the greater consequences to the environment.”
Gelston Castle Estate is located at 980 Robinson Road, Jordanville, NY. It is the former summer home of US President Theodore Roosevelt and more recently, Mstislav “Maestro” Rostropovich. Ideally situated above the Mohawk Valley, it is 20 minutes north of Cooperstown, 20 minutes east of Utica, and 10 minutes from the Thruway at exit 30.
